The Pinwheel Quilt

I finished this quilt top months ago!  It has taken me this long to find the right backing for it and get it quilted.  Please tell me I am not the only one the quilt tops just waiting to be quilted!

I searched and searched for the right fabric for the backing and couldn't find anything that felt right.  You know what I mean? You see that bolt of fabric and you know it was meant to be on your quilt!  So one day I was looking for orange and white checkered fabric (go Vols!) to make a pillowcase dress for a friend's baby. None of the usual stores carried it.  So I started looking for other fabric shops in town that I may not know about.  I found one! I thought it was just sewing machines, but they also have an amazing selection of fabric, including orange and white checkered fabric!

While I was walking around drooling looking at fabric I found bolts of Sugar Pop by Moda! I used a charm pack of Sugar Pop to make this quilt, plus some extra fabrics.  This new store I love is All About Sewing.  They were so nice and helpful.  Plus lots of Moda fabric! Bolts, charm packs, jelly rolls.....sigh!

See! Isn't it pretty!!! I love the backing fabric so much, I think you could use it as a reversable quilt.  What do you think?

I quilted it in a wonky wave pattern.  I call it wonky because not every wavy line is the same.  See, you probably thought I meant to make it wonky!

This is the first time I quilted something that wasn't in straight lines.  Very scary! But it didn't turn out too bad.  Just a little wonky! I just listed this in my Etsy shop.  Let me know what you think.

The Wave Quilt

I love the quilts from http://www.ohfransson.com/.  She has some great patterns! I fell in love with this one and had to make it. So here it is!

This quilt is a little bigger than I intended.  It's 38" x 53", so it may be a little big for a crib quilt, but would work great on a toddler bed.

I decided to quilt only on the white sashing, and I think it turned out ok.  I love the fabrics so much, I didn't want to take away from them.

This quilt is posted in my Etsy shop.  If you like it, it can be yours!

Finally finished the quilt top!

I found enough time to get this quilt top finished!

Now I have to decide what to use as the backing. I am thinking of using something in green.  What do you think?  I am afraid brown would be too dark. Hmmm....not sure.

Then for the binding maybe something in light blue?  Or maybe teal?  I really need some help!

I love all the different colors!  I wish I could take credit for be creative, but I just used two fat quarter bundles that matched.

Look at these birdies!  Aren't they adorable!

I will head out next week and buy fabric for the backing and binding so this will all be finished.  Then I will get it listed on my Etsy shop.

Just delivered an order of bibs!

I love when people ask me to make things for them! I had a sweet lady ask me to make up some bibs for her and she brought me the fabric.

They turned out pretty good.  I love the flowers.

These are some of my favorites.  I hope I can get some pictures of her sweet boy wearing one of these!

Couple of finished projects and a WIP

I have been a bit busy lately.  School is about to start and I have a "doula baby" I am expecting to make an appearance any day now.  So, not too much sewing going on. I did however get a couple of things finished and a new quilt started.

This is the layout of my next quilt.  There is white sashing between each of the rows.  I hope it turns out as pretty as I think it will.

I have been holding on to this fabric for a while, not sure what to do with it.  Then I saw this quilt, and I knew I had to make it. You should explore http://www.ohfransson.com/ sometime.  This is one very talented woman!

And I finished two car seat canopy's! One for a dear friend of mine....

And I decided to have something pretty for the lining fabric so the baby would have something to look at.

I just hope it's not too dark in there for her to see the butterfly's!

I love this one! I could not pass up this fabric.  I am going to put this one on my Etsy shop.  So if you know of anyone who loves cowboy's, let me know.  This one is ready to go out the door!

And this last picture is make you say "Awww".

Ain't she cute!?!

Love this bib!

Isn't this the most awesome bib ever!

The Ice Cream Quilt

I know, it's a strange name for a quilt.  Especially since there isn't any pictures of ice cream on the fabric! When I finished the quilt top, I took it next door to show my neighbor.  She told her husband to come look at it, and he named it the ice cream quilt.  Said the colors made him think of Neapolitan Ice Cream.  What do you think?

This is my first quilt I did on my own without a pattern.  Not too bad for a first try. Don't look too closely, there are a few mistakes.

The colors, I think, go well together.  It seemed to come together nicely.  So I guess it does make a person think of Neapolitan Ice Cream.

Maybe I can write up some simple instructions on how I did this.  I just drew it up on notebook paper and went to work.  What do you think? Oh, and I would have rotated the picture if I could have figured out how to!!!

My Etsy Shop!

Well I officially have an Etsy shop! I am so excited.  People have asked me several times if I had an Etsy shop to sell my things, and I finally gave in.  If you get a chance, hop on over to my shop and take a peek.  The shop name is MySewManyBabies.  I will be adding more things as I take pictures of them.  Right now my good friend Beth from Smith Studios is helping me with some photos.  I am not the best picture taking gal! Thank goodness I am blessed with talented friends. Take a look at her work.  I promise you won't be disappointed!

Zig Zag quilt finished!!!

I have had this quilt finished for a few weeks, but I couldn't post it until it was given to my friend at her baby shower.  You never know who might be reading your blog!!! And here it is....

I had a lot of fun making this quilt.  It was pretty simple.  It's using half square triangles and that's it.  The tutorial I used is from Lella Boutique.  You should go check out her blog.  She is very talented. You will love it!

This is it before it was quilted.  So simple but I love it.  I think I will make this one again. Sorry for the lack of pictures.  I thought I took more than the one of it finished. Opps! I will try to get some more on here of it.

Car seat canopy

Wow!  It's been almost two weeks since I posted.  You probably thought I had run away!  Nope.  Just had VBS last week.  It was amazing!!! I love teaching and having fun with all the kids, but I am so worn out by the end of it.  Whew!!!

So I thought I would catch you up on a few things I have done.  Here is a car seat canopy I made for a dear friend of mine.

I just love the birdies!  I actually made a bib out of this same fabric for this same family.  Maybe I should buy some more of it.

There are a few tutorials out there for car seat canopy's.  There is this one, this one is pretty cute, here is one made from fleece, and also this one is made from some great fabric!!!  I noticed most of the tutorials are pretty close to the same.  Each one is just a little bit different.  So go through and pick out what you like best and make your own.

This picture shows the lining fabric. I am pleased with how it came out, but mostly my friend, Janna, is very pleased with it.  So that makes me the happiest!  I keep telling her that she is my free advertising.  Everytime I get the itch to try something new, I make it and give it to her.  She shows it off for me and gives me tips on what to change.  Awesome friend! Love her!  She is an incredible mom with the most precious children.  Wish they were all made like her.

Here is some Michael Miller fabric I found today.  I am going to use it to make another car seat canopy.

Isn't it sweet!!!

The dark red with the horses will be the lining fabric and the handles will be made from the bandana fabric.  Can't wait to see it done!  Know anyone with a baby boy who would want to buy it?  I really need to get an Etsy store!

Confident Birthing Workshop

Exciting news!  Connection Yoga and Push Doula Services are teaming up for the Confident Birthing Workshop at the Glowing Body yoga studio. It is the last weekend in July, Saturday July 30th and Sunday July 31st.  This workshop is based on the book Active Birth by Janet Balaskas.  She teaches how you can use yoga to prepare your body for labor and how movement can help your labor progress.  This is one of the best childbirth education books I have ever read.  I highly recommend it!

Yours truly is the Push Doula part of the workshop.  I get to teach the childbirth education part of the class and Lauren H is teaching the prenatal yoga part.

This is Lauren H.

She is teaching the prenatal yoga part of the workshop.  Pretty awesome teacher!  Don't worry, Lauren teaches more than prenatal yoga.  So if you need someone to whip you into shape, she is the one to call!

She looks all sweet in the above photo, but don't let her fool you.  Lauren will work your hiney off!  You can go to her website www.connectionyoga.com and check out what she is about.  I can tell you first hand her classes are a lot of fun.  Hard work!  But fun!

So if you know anyone in Knoxville that is expecting, tell them all about our workshop.  It will help them prepare for labor, mind and body! If you have any questions, please let me know.

Need help!

Anyone know what this language is or what it says?

I found this fat quarter a while back and thought it was pretty cool looking.  I really want to use it to make a baby bib.  Something a little different and quirky.  I am a little afraid to since I don't know what it says. If you know what language this is or what it says, could you let me know. I am afraid if I make it into a bib, it may say something like "Llamas are weird", or it may say "There is no such thing as the Easter bunny".  Too tragic to put on a baby bib! So if you have some information about this, let me know. No moma would be happy with a baby wearing a bib that says, "Kittens are evil".

My burp clothes must be tasty!

I knew my burp clothes were good for keeping your clothes clean when holding leaky babies.  I knew they were fun and cute  to look at.  I also knew they were handy for putting under a baby while they were sleeping to catch any spit up.  But did you know they were tasty?!?

Sweet Pea's moma had to keep several laying around because they kept being eaten!

The poor kid couldn't stuff them all in her mouth fast enough!  So this is now my baby endorsement.  Even if the mom's don't care for the burp clothes, they babies love them!!!

I just couldn't help this picture.  Isn't she adorable!!! Love the hair flip going on.  Silly moma tried to put a bow in her hair.  Guess she showed her, huh?!?  So there you go.  Burp clothes have been baby tested and have the Sweet Pea seal of approval.  Or was that a seal of slobber?

This is what the burp cloth looked like before Pea attacked it.

I decided to use....

...the green fabric!

Yay! I know all of you are jumping up and down right now!  It's funny, the fabric looks really wrinkled in the photo, but not so much in person.  Hmmm, bad lighting? That's what I blame it on in the dressing room.  If I look too wrinkled, it must be the lighting!

I cut out about 24 circles in maybe 5 minutes with my GO! Baby.  I love that thing!

Don't tell anyone, but I got my GO! Baby from Amazon.com for about $85. Brand new.  I am all about the good deals. Or maybe I'm just cheap?

I've got to make some more circles out of this fabric (above). But I ran out of interfacing, so it will have to wait till I run to the store tomorrow.

I am really happy with the circles.  There is no way I could have cut them out. Not and them look like circles.  Maybe egg shape.... And that would have taken me all day.  It would not have been pretty!  So this weekend I will start the process of sewing the circles to the fabric.  I can't wait!
