The Pinwheel Quilt

I finished this quilt top months ago!  It has taken me this long to find the right backing for it and get it quilted.  Please tell me I am not the only one the quilt tops just waiting to be quilted!

I searched and searched for the right fabric for the backing and couldn't find anything that felt right.  You know what I mean? You see that bolt of fabric and you know it was meant to be on your quilt!  So one day I was looking for orange and white checkered fabric (go Vols!) to make a pillowcase dress for a friend's baby. None of the usual stores carried it.  So I started looking for other fabric shops in town that I may not know about.  I found one! I thought it was just sewing machines, but they also have an amazing selection of fabric, including orange and white checkered fabric!

While I was walking around drooling looking at fabric I found bolts of Sugar Pop by Moda! I used a charm pack of Sugar Pop to make this quilt, plus some extra fabrics.  This new store I love is All About Sewing.  They were so nice and helpful.  Plus lots of Moda fabric! Bolts, charm packs, jelly rolls.....sigh!

See! Isn't it pretty!!! I love the backing fabric so much, I think you could use it as a reversable quilt.  What do you think?

I quilted it in a wonky wave pattern.  I call it wonky because not every wavy line is the same.  See, you probably thought I meant to make it wonky!

This is the first time I quilted something that wasn't in straight lines.  Very scary! But it didn't turn out too bad.  Just a little wonky! I just listed this in my Etsy shop.  Let me know what you think.

The Wave Quilt

I love the quilts from http://www.ohfransson.com/.  She has some great patterns! I fell in love with this one and had to make it. So here it is!

This quilt is a little bigger than I intended.  It's 38" x 53", so it may be a little big for a crib quilt, but would work great on a toddler bed.

I decided to quilt only on the white sashing, and I think it turned out ok.  I love the fabrics so much, I didn't want to take away from them.

This quilt is posted in my Etsy shop.  If you like it, it can be yours!

Finally finished the quilt top!

I found enough time to get this quilt top finished!

Now I have to decide what to use as the backing. I am thinking of using something in green.  What do you think?  I am afraid brown would be too dark. Hmmm....not sure.

Then for the binding maybe something in light blue?  Or maybe teal?  I really need some help!

I love all the different colors!  I wish I could take credit for be creative, but I just used two fat quarter bundles that matched.

Look at these birdies!  Aren't they adorable!

I will head out next week and buy fabric for the backing and binding so this will all be finished.  Then I will get it listed on my Etsy shop.

Couple of finished projects and a WIP

I have been a bit busy lately.  School is about to start and I have a "doula baby" I am expecting to make an appearance any day now.  So, not too much sewing going on. I did however get a couple of things finished and a new quilt started.

This is the layout of my next quilt.  There is white sashing between each of the rows.  I hope it turns out as pretty as I think it will.

I have been holding on to this fabric for a while, not sure what to do with it.  Then I saw this quilt, and I knew I had to make it. You should explore http://www.ohfransson.com/ sometime.  This is one very talented woman!

And I finished two car seat canopy's! One for a dear friend of mine....

And I decided to have something pretty for the lining fabric so the baby would have something to look at.

I just hope it's not too dark in there for her to see the butterfly's!

I love this one! I could not pass up this fabric.  I am going to put this one on my Etsy shop.  So if you know of anyone who loves cowboy's, let me know.  This one is ready to go out the door!

And this last picture is make you say "Awww".

Ain't she cute!?!

More pictures of the Ice Cream Quilt

These pictures are so much better than the ones I took! Just look!

She just makes the quilt look better!

Just perfect! Don't you think?  Pumpkin seems to match her quilt!  All sweetness!

The Ice Cream Quilt

I know, it's a strange name for a quilt.  Especially since there isn't any pictures of ice cream on the fabric! When I finished the quilt top, I took it next door to show my neighbor.  She told her husband to come look at it, and he named it the ice cream quilt.  Said the colors made him think of Neapolitan Ice Cream.  What do you think?

This is my first quilt I did on my own without a pattern.  Not too bad for a first try. Don't look too closely, there are a few mistakes.

The colors, I think, go well together.  It seemed to come together nicely.  So I guess it does make a person think of Neapolitan Ice Cream.

Maybe I can write up some simple instructions on how I did this.  I just drew it up on notebook paper and went to work.  What do you think? Oh, and I would have rotated the picture if I could have figured out how to!!!

My Etsy Shop!

Well I officially have an Etsy shop! I am so excited.  People have asked me several times if I had an Etsy shop to sell my things, and I finally gave in.  If you get a chance, hop on over to my shop and take a peek.  The shop name is MySewManyBabies.  I will be adding more things as I take pictures of them.  Right now my good friend Beth from Smith Studios is helping me with some photos.  I am not the best picture taking gal! Thank goodness I am blessed with talented friends. Take a look at her work.  I promise you won't be disappointed!

Zig Zag quilt finished!!!

I have had this quilt finished for a few weeks, but I couldn't post it until it was given to my friend at her baby shower.  You never know who might be reading your blog!!! And here it is....

I had a lot of fun making this quilt.  It was pretty simple.  It's using half square triangles and that's it.  The tutorial I used is from Lella Boutique.  You should go check out her blog.  She is very talented. You will love it!

This is it before it was quilted.  So simple but I love it.  I think I will make this one again. Sorry for the lack of pictures.  I thought I took more than the one of it finished. Opps! I will try to get some more on here of it.

I decided to use....

...the green fabric!

Yay! I know all of you are jumping up and down right now!  It's funny, the fabric looks really wrinkled in the photo, but not so much in person.  Hmmm, bad lighting? That's what I blame it on in the dressing room.  If I look too wrinkled, it must be the lighting!

I cut out about 24 circles in maybe 5 minutes with my GO! Baby.  I love that thing!

Don't tell anyone, but I got my GO! Baby from Amazon.com for about $85. Brand new.  I am all about the good deals. Or maybe I'm just cheap?

I've got to make some more circles out of this fabric (above). But I ran out of interfacing, so it will have to wait till I run to the store tomorrow.

I am really happy with the circles.  There is no way I could have cut them out. Not and them look like circles.  Maybe egg shape.... And that would have taken me all day.  It would not have been pretty!  So this weekend I will start the process of sewing the circles to the fabric.  I can't wait!

Need your opinion

Okay, I need some input.  I found this amazing, beautiful quilt I want to make:

It's from A Little Gray. This is one talented lady!

So I have the fabric for the dots and I can't decide what color to do the background in.  I don't think white will work because there is some white in the fabrics.  So your choices are:

light green (sorry, haven't ironed it yet)

or yellow

Or maybe a whole different color? This is just what I have on hand ready to sew with. So let me know what you think.  I can't wait to get started on this!

Finished the Central Park baby quilt!

Woohoo! I finished the Central Park baby quilt!

It's for my neighbor's niece.  They don't know the gender of the baby, so this Kate Spain fabric is perfect!

I am very pleased with how this one turned out.  I think it is one of my favorites.  I decided to try a pieced backing this time.

Not too bad for a first time. I love the crinkly look.  It is very soft and snuggly.  This one is a little hard to pass on. I think I say that with every quilt!

The pattern I used is this one.  I just left off the circles and changed the border a bit.  There are so many great patterns on Moda Bake Shop.  I could spend hours there!  It would take years for me to make everything I want to.

Current work in progress

I started working on a quilt for my neighbor a couple of days ago.  A very simple layout, but the fabric is so pretty!

I still have to add one more white border around the edges and then I can make my quilt sandwich. The tutorial I used is from http://www.modabakeshop.com/2011/04/hoopla-pops-quilt.html#more.  Moda Bake Shop is a favorite site of mine. I did change a few things from the tutorial.  I don't think I have every made something without changing it a bit! Just got to put my own spin on things!

The quilt is for my neighbor's neice.  She doesn't know the gender of the baby, so I thought this was a good neutral fabric.  I used Central Park by Kate Spain.  Any fabric by Kate Spain is amazing! The colors and designs are fabulous!!!

So now the question is what color backing do I use? I am thinking maybe something with yellow, orange or green.  I also need to decide if I want to do a solid backing or do I want to try a pieced backing.  I have a few pieces left from the charm pack I used, so I am leaning toward a pieced backing.  Any suggestions?  I would love to hear some opinions.  I will post more pictures as I get further into the quilt.

A great UPS day!

Look what the man in brown brought me today! AccuQuilt Go Baby!

At first I was worried that I may have wasted my money.  But after trying it, I am hooked! I can hear my rotary cutter crying from loneliness. It is so simple and is so much better than my cutting! Now I have to buy a bunch more dies! Can you hear my bank account screaming?!?

A baby quilt for Kayln

I finished this quilt for a dear friend of mine a couple of months ago.  Almost forgot to post pictures of it! I think I am the most pleased with this quilt.

The centers of the blocks are minky.  I love that stuff! Kinda a pain to work with when it's little squares, but soooo worth it.

My friend couldn't decide if she wanted to use her first daughter's nursery stuff, which is pink and brown, or if she wanted a new set she liked that was pink and green.  So I just used all the colors! Ha!

I just did simple outline quilting for this one.  One day I will try something a bit more complicated.  For the squares I used this tutorial, http://www.cluckclucksew.com/2010/07/stack-n-whack.html.  Very easy to follow.  I love this blog! You should check it out sometime.  Allison is very talented.

Boy baby quilt

Here is another quilt I recently finished.  It is my first baby boy quilt.
The colors are so different.  I think that is one reason I like it so much.  It's just a really simple patchwork quilt, but the fabric is awesome.

The backing is a super soft yellow from Joann's.  It can be found with the chenille and minky fabrics.  Kinda expensive, but you don't have to use much with a baby blanket.  Plus if you are a cheapo like me, you use a 40% off coupon!  I love my coupons!
